(More customer reviews)I have a finicky 50 lb. Shepherd/Chow mix. While he'll eat high quality kibble (Nature's Instinct), he really prefers raw food. The chickensicles and lambsicles were pretty pricey, and while I don't mind spoiling him a few times a week, I really did need him to just eat *something*. (You can't get adopted by an Italian American woman and not eat. It's just not allowed). Since our family adores this dog (he doesn't bark, walks like an angel, doesn't chase the cats too much, and is wonderful with my young kids) we're willing to give him a good diet.
This dehydrated stuff doesn't look inspiring. It looks like dirt pellets. I can assure you, though, that the smell is 100% non dirt. Smells like meat and blood. You rehydrate with warm, not hot water. It rather makes a soup in the bowl, but the bag assures you that the liquid is reconstituted blood and will be enjoyed by your dog. As it doesn't look like blood, I don't mind.
And the dog loves it. LOVES it. He doesn't always eat it all at once, but it is gone within about 10 minutes. Depends on whether one of the cats or kids scares him away from the bowl.
I bought my bag of K9Natural from my local specialty dog food store, so I can't vouch for the price here. If you can find it locally, it's definitely something to put in your rotation of foods. For those of us in Cali, it's also a good idea to have some on hand for earthquake preparedness. It has an indefinite shelf life and is nutritionally complete.
