This is a poor quality dog food. It is a well known fact that ingredients such as corn and wheat are often causes of food allergies in dogs. There is very little meat in this food. Animal and poultry by product is not good. Many dogs will itch like mad after being on this food for a while. It is not a healthy way to lose weight. This food gets the lowest possible rating by non-bias scientific based sources such as dogfoodanalysis[dot you know what]. If you want a healthy reduced fat kibble consider Wellness Core (grain free) Reduced Fat. No. I am not a competitor. My parents' dog suffered terribly as a result of eating this unhealthy food.
Do web searches for the 10 worst dog foods and you'll always see this one on it (along with Science Diet.) Read reviews on dogfoods by the Whole Dog Journal and others. You'll see how poorly this food rates. Read the books on dog nutrition available through amazon and see how the advice is consistent about the need for fresh foods and the need to stay away from pet foods of this sort.
Although the package might say complete and blanced, it can't possibly be. It has to be imblanced because of the extremely high carb and grain content. It has to be incomplete because it is totally void of the enzymes, probiotics, and omega 3 fatty acids that are all so vital to dogs' health, and that can only be obtained by fresh food diets and the better commercial diets.
Here are some quotes about the ingredients in Pro Plan that I've found in my research: "The main meat ingredient in this food is in fact poultry by-product meal...These are usually products that are of such low quality as to be rejected for use in the human food chain, or else are those parts that have so little value that they cannot be used elsewhere in either the human or pet food industries." And this: ..."unlikely that there is any significant meat content in the food at all, but rather it is primarily a collection of grains." And these other quotes about Pro Plan's ingredients: "synthetic vitamin K, a substance linked to liver problems...Corn is a difficult to digest grain of limited value in dog food. It is also commonly associated with allergy problems...Wheat is believed by many to be the leading cause of food allergy problems in dog food."

It is a well known fact, reiterated in countless articles and product reviews, that ingredients such as corn, wheat, soy, sugar, synthetic vitamin K, chemical preservatives, and animal by product are not good for dogs. This dog food has a lot of those harmful ingrediants.
There are excellent pathogen free commercial raw foods for dogs, grain free kibbles, and numerous books and websites and dog journals (such as The Whole Dog Journal) that stress the need for fresh food diets. I am truly amazed that anyone would ever feed Pro Plan to a dog when there's so many better options available. Imagine a doctor telling you that you should eat a diet consisting of highly processed food with inferior ingredients that is cooked for three days and then baked into small chunks, with supplements added as an afterthought. Yet this is what you'd be feeding your dog if you fed Pro Plan. Imagine the doctor telling you that this would be better for you than fresh unprocessed organic foods. You'd tell him that he was nuts!
If your dog is overweight then feed fresh lean meats as part of well researched home-made raw or cooked diet.
If your're going to feed kibble, then at least feed ones that are rated highly, not a "food" like this that is at the very bottom.
